Card, board, and educational games are booming, with new releases almost every day. But despite this popularity, it is very hard to find a unified, up-to-date resource on how to actually design, prototype, and produce a board game from scratch. We decided to fix that and create the resource we wish we had when we started.
Introducing: “Ohhh, I’ve made a board game”
This isn’t just a standard read; it’s an interactive, living book available online and on e-readers. Because the tabletop industry moves fast, we will continually update the book with new mechanics, tools, and insights as we discover them.
Why did we decide to write this book
When we started designing games, we quickly discovered that information was scattered everywhere. One article explained mechanics, another discussed prototyping, and a forum thread mentioned manufacturing. Learning how to create a game often meant spending hundreds of hours searching for answers, making mistakes, and starting over.
This book brings the entire process together in one place so everyone will find practical guidance, real examples, and actionable checklists that help you move from idea to finished product. At least we hope. The goal isn’t just to teach game design theory—it’s to help you actually finish, publish and sell (optional) a game.
